OrthoNebraska Elkhorn-Ambulatory Surgery Center Addition
Omaha, NE
In 2019, Castle Contracting contributed to the OrthoNebraska Elkhorn Surgery Center new construction, led by McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. Castle Omaha’s project team has returned to the Elkhorn Surgery Center, delivering underground utilities, infrastructure, and earthwork scopes for the facility’s 28,000-square-foot addition. Throughout the civil construction phase, the crew’s responsibilities include stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) development, site demolition, structural excavation for under-slab plumbing, and site utilities for storm sewer, sanitary sewer, as well as site domestic and fire water service lines. Additionally, Castle is assisting in a separate project phase, modifying the existing structure to accommodate the installation of a new MRI machine. This scope entails site logistic efforts alongside subgrade preparation for the MRI machine’s mechanical pads.
A typical challenge that Castle encounters on projects, including this surgical expansion, is conflicts between new utilities installation and preexisting site utilities, including pipe size changes throughout a total of 1,000 LF of domestic, fire service, storm, and temporary sewer service-pipeline. Implementing approaches, such as hydro-excavation, our team prevents accidental damage to existing utilities and supports efficient design-alteration. This strategic planning enables Castle to perform its scope without impeding Elkhorn Surgery Center’s daily operations, maintaining the well-being of healthcare personnel, patients, and quality of treatment.
OrthoNebraska’s push to expand the Elkhorn Surgery Center-footprint, not long after its inception, is indicative of the healthcare provider’s goal to provide premium access to orthopedic and musculoskeletal specialists to the growing greater Omaha area. Offering regional services with large-scale resources and capabilities, Castle Omaha and entities like OrthoNebraska demonstrate the key to building healthy, thriving communities and longevity.
