Cordia – New Client Utility Infrastructure
Omaha, NE
Castle excavated multiple utility runs to help Cordia integrate four new clients into its centralized utility infrastructure system in downtown Omaha. Working within four square blocks of high-traffic rights of way, Castle completed multiple segments of excavation and utility work to connect significant Omaha architecture to Cordia’s utility loop, including the Farnam Data Center, Douglas County Justice Center, Nebraska State Building and Central High School.
Castle’s work with Grunwald Mechanical Contractors & Engineers encompassed $3.2 million worth of excavation, supporting Cordia’s chilled water system and steam pipeline installation as well as preparing the jobsites for electrical PVC conduit, steam and condensate lines, RCP sewer and more.
The projects’ challenges included working around more than a century’s worth of underground development and deteriorating existing infrastructure. Utilizing technology and approaches, like auger boring and trenchless installations, Castle’s project team adhered to the project timeline and minimized disruptions to the surrounding areas.
Additional scope included removal of hardscape, utilities, and vaults; excavation/shoring/insulation/backfill for water, steam and condensate, and storm pipe, a as well as for conduit for electrical; water proofing; form walls; saw-cutting; traffic control; temporary fencing and concrete barriers; street sweeping, erosion control; and restoration of paving, sidewalk, and landscaping.
