Tomahawk Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility
Johnson County, KS
Successfully executing a $23 million self-perform, yard pipe package, Castle facilitated the Tomahawk Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility Expansion. The work supplemented the overarching 70-acre, $286 million expansion, increasing the facility’s footprint by nearly 30% and its water-filtration capacity by 19 mgd (million gallons per day).
This complex project demanded innovative problem solving. Castle’s scope of work included all exterior underground piping, ranging from 1 to 84 inches in diameter, and comprising 35,000 feet (6.5 miles) for process interconnects, wastewater, fire protection, potable water, chemical piping, electrical duct bank, and natural gas. Additionally, our yard pipe package encompassed a 60-inch ductile pipe installation, providing the force main system with fully restrained, high-pressure piping.
Dedicated to our proven excellence, Castle’s team members applied their expertise, setting the Tomahawk Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility up for success. Before commencing the demolition and new construction, our project team diverted the flow of sewage and wastewater away from the site’s existing structures. To tie existing sewage and wastewater lines into a single, 72-inch line, our field and craft team members implemented six bypass pumps, achieving the 24/7 sewer bypass required for the redirection.
