University of Nebraska – 13724 Steam Line Replacement from Manhole 1 to Manhole 3
Omaha, NE
Due to aging infrastructure, a portion of the campus utility loop at The University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) required a steam line replacement. Partnered with Grunwald Mechanical, Castle served as the civil self-perform utility contractor, responsible for removal of the existing steam utility chase, piping and a vault; excavation and shoring for the installation of 400 LF of pre-insulated perma-pipe, a new manhole and vault; and infill and backfill.
Castle also excavated for new site electrical, storm and sanitary; installed and maintained a security fence and screen, site signage, traffic control and jersey barriers, temporary and new pavement and sidewalks, as well as temporary doors at the Community Engagement Center building; performed landscaping restoration, irrigation system repair, pavement removals, street sweeping, SWPPP and protection of utilities.
The replacement path impacted building operations and rights of way, including pedestrian and vehicular routes on an active campus. Therefore, the project timeline followed multiple installation phases, sustaining student and staff safety, preserving building accessibility as well as adjusting pedestrian and vehicle routes. Castle’s work to protect campus operations included, creating and maintaining temporary parking, walkways, road striping, jersey barriers and diversions.
